Ipratropium Bromide

Ipratropium bromide is an anticholinergic (parasympatholytic) agent that inhibits vagally-mediated reflexes by antagonizing the action of acetylcholine. This action prevents the increase in intracellular concentration of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) caused by interaction of acetylcholine with muscarinic receptors on bronchial smooth muscle, leading to bronchodilation.

Dosage by Body Weight

Administered via oral inhalation (using a metered-dose inhaler or nebulizer) or intranasally. Dosage must be individualized. Inhalation solution is typically administered 3 to 4 times a day via nebulizer. Pediatric dosing is often based on age and severity of symptoms rather than strict body weight; consult a healthcare professional for exact instructions.
